iPod Mixer from Newmark

Idj

Time Magazine reviews...

"Take away scratching, looping, and tempo synching and what have you got? Say you're going to DJ a party. With two iPods already docked and charging, you don't have to worry about plugging in extra power or audio cables. You can use the trackwheels on the iDJ to easily navigate the contents of your iPods. You can preview one song while the other is playing, and independently adjust the treble, midrange and bass of each.

Provided you have an iPod Photo or any newer color-screen model, you can run a slideshow out the S-Video output and onto a TV or projector you bring along. It only works with the iPod in the left-hand dock, however—it can't blend photos from two iPods, the way it blends their sounds."

High School Percussionists Perform DJ Shadow

Shadow

Music Thing reports that the after-school percussion group at Minnetonka High School, Minneapolis, rehearsed for months and can now play two tracks from DJ Shadow's 'Endtroducing' album. The music was arranged by 25 year-old geographer/law student/vibraslap enthusiast Brian Udelhofen, who teaches the group. You have to see it to believe it.

Martha Stewart Renounces Fur, Hosts PETA Video Exposé

Petamartha

“I used to wear real fur,” says Martha Stewart in her new video for PETA, “but, like many others, I had a change of heart when I learned what actually happens to the animals.” Her brief fur-trade exposé, filmed on the set of her TV talk show, shows how animals are trapped, strangled, and electrocuted for their pelts.

Martha’s public turnaround on fur began this spring, when she responded from jail to a letter from PETA Vice President Dan Mathews, explaining that the fur she famously wore the day of her sentencing was fake. Martha credits her vegetarian daughter, Alexis, who costars in her new show, The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, with making her aware of animal issues. – PETA press release

Cocaine Kate Takes Heat

000ab560efd9120587cd80bfb6fa0000

LONDON (AFX) - British luxury goods company Burberry Group PLC has torn up a contract with Kate Moss after the model was recently alleged to have been photographed taking cocaine.

'At the current time we had one project scheduled with Kate for this autumn and in the circumstances both Kate and Burberry have mutually agreed that it is inappropriate to go ahead,' Burberry said in a statement.

Swedish clothing retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB yesterday dumped Moss as the face of its upcoming Stella McCartney collection advertising campaign. The BBC earlier reported she had also been dropped by French fashion house Chanel. [rob.branch@afxnews.com]

Bunny Hill

Mountainviewblog

Rosalind Ryan at the The Guardian Unlimited writes that a controversial Viennese art group, Gelatin, has erected a giant pink rabbit on the side of a mountain where they plan for it to stay until 2025.

The 200ft long toy rabbit now nestles into the side of the Colletto Fava mountain in Italy's northern Piedmont region.

"Behind a hill, as if knitted by giant grandmothers, lies this vast rabbit, to make you feel as small as a daisy," said group member Wolfgang Gantner. The artists want people to scale the rabbit's sides and fall asleep on its stomach…

Liquid Painting

A089

OÏO is a truly unique experience where liquid paint and the cinematographic medium come together to create a painting in motion: a cinepainting! Jets of paint catapulted into the air become perceptible to the human eye through high-speed camera and computer. A bold technical device that allowed Simon Goulet to create a remarkable piece of art, highly acclaimed throughout the world for its "extraordinary technical inventiveness that takes the image and music on an emotional, dizzying trip toward great creativity" (International Federation of Film Critics, Annecy, 2003).

New York Fashion Week

Nycfashionweekbegins_1

New York Fashion Week has begun. I haven't really seen anything that truly wows in these opening shows but I will keep you posted. (The word for this Fall, however is BLACK)

The New York Metro seems to have the most quickly updated shows. I also recommend Style.com, and Men.Style.com

Theron Flux

Aeon

Some of the set design choices could be interesting ...but I think we all know... the live action Aeon Flux will most probably suck. I mean... Charlize Theron? Sure she can act, but she's hardly strange enough to pull off the O.G. Aeons acrobatic tongue twisting or gnashing of flies with teeth.

See the trailer for yourself here.
