Going Back Underground

131_200

I was pleased to see this months cover of URB magazine featuring former Utah DJ and House music producer Kaskade alongside Tommie Sunshine and DJ A-Trak. The feature article called "Disc Jockey U.S.A." is about the changing face of deejaying, the worldwide club scene, and addresses specific questions about how each uses new advancements in technology like CDJ players, mp3's and Serrato.

Ryan (Kaskade) had a particularly good quote regarding how overblown the scene is at the moment, saying "Anything dealing with dance music seems not cool anymore and I'm fine with that. Let it go underground again. That's why we all got into it in the first place."

Athiests Rule & Halloween Sucks

Halloween was, well... strange. And as it shoud be I figure.

The deal with my gig last night was that the mayor, who I like in principal, didn't even show up to his own fundraiser! I'm well aware that he's quite the party monster, and I still agree with most of his politics, (i.e. virulently antiwar, partnership benefits for all city employees...radical ideas for a place like SLC) but, talk about a R-A-N-D-O-M night.

The venue was excellent (the Nouveaux Alt Store in Art Space) and everyone involved practially lost sleep trying to get it set up... but in the end, no one even showed up... including the honorable MAYOR ROCKY ANDERSON, who's name was all over the poster!

I could care less really, I had a decent time playing for some close friends that made it out. It's just too bad when an event has so much potential and then it flops all over the place. On top of that, Halloween always seems to be rife with drunked up middle management types who wander through parties and clubs thinking that by donning a costume or mask of some kind they have every right to act all nutballs and take zero responsibilty for themselves.

Note to future self: Avoid Halloween at all costs.

Anyways... I was reading the local paper at a cafe on Sunday morning and thought it was a funny coincidence that they saved the entire Op-Ed page for some Satan loving Athiests. In particular, this local resident and seemingly moral person put into print what I have thought for years on the issue of being one in Utah.

Attack Of The Super Dolls

Exoticfusiongroupiesandlarge

If I collected things other than vinyl records, rare fragrance ...and cats (6 and counting), you know I would be hoarding up the entire collection of Fashion Royalty dolls o'er ta Magma Heritage. These dolls rawk onward and upward at 13" inches high, that's 2" higher than Barbie my friends, and there's a bunch of other technical details that are sure to boggle the mind and secure the wallet.

Product6

Designer Jason Woo, a recent graduate of FIT also created an outrageously popular Ru Paul (she be a drag queen, yo) doll.

I'm told that you have to pre-order these gorgeous glamazonians months in advance if you want a chance in hell of owning one.... Oh, and the wallpapers with dolls posing sexy in various situations/locales are HOT HOT HOT!

New Lars Behrenroth DJ Mix

Download this very original sounding DJ mix from Lars Behrenroth, a recent transplante from Germany to Los Angles. He has a growing list of remixes out and is very in tune with the uncommonly good quirkyness to be had in dance music at the moment.

The Deseret News reports that a gay themed movie "Adored: Diary of a Porn Star" landed in the similarly titled "Sons of Provo" DVD cases, complete with label. "Sons of Provo" chronicles the life of an fictional LDS boy band called Everclean.

Deseret Book yanked the film from its shelves after two families in St. George and Riverdale complained they didn't get what they paid for — good, clean LDS fun.

The independent film is unrated but is not pornographic, said Corey Eubanks, spokesman for Wolfe Video, the largest distributor of films featuring gay and lesbian characters and stories. However, the film does contain sexual situations and centers around a gay porn star.

Both "Adored" and "Sons of Provo" hired the same Los Angeles company to make copies of their movies for mass DVD sales. Somewhere in the distribution process, "Adored" movies got mixed in with "Sons of Provo" DVDs and were shipped to Utah, said George Dayton, who oversees HaleStorm's business affairs.

Halestorm Entertainment are also behind the soon to be achievements in cinema, "Suits on the Loose" and "Mobsters & Mormons".
