Tracklist For Jesse Walker ALIVE IN 2005

For anyone who might be coming this way via the mix CD's that are floating about... The mix was recorded live at our weekly House party JUST WANNA DANCE on November TwentySecondnd 2005 (hence the title ALIVE IN 2005). It's the later half of my set which drifted from Deep to Soulful to Clubby to Tech to Broken Beat and Latin HOUSE. Yes... that sounds strange but it was an incredible night with friends and somehow it all worked out quite wonderfully. Variety is the spice of life, is it not? Anyways, here's some MP3 artwork and the Tracklist for any trainspotters. We should get around to posting it to download here soon.

I was totally blown away by the wonderful turnout for our last night at Try-Angles. Nick James turned the place into a mad house at several points in the night and fun was had by all. I would like to personally thank everyone who has supported JUST WANNA DANCE from the very beginning. We might continue the party somewhere else in the future, so watch this space!

Harry Scary

I've been without internets at my house for about a week so just getting around to posting some new...

Gofposter00

Me and some friends saw Harry Potter yesterday with the masses. Don't know why exactly, it just sounded like a perfect hangover thing to do.

We wanted to make the 3:30 but it was sold out so we walked around The Beigeway like pathetic mall rats until the 5:00 show which turned out to be the perfect amount of time to visit the Apple store that secretly opened here over the weekend.

It's not terribly big or anything, but it's great that we have one now. A couple of rent-a-cops greeted us at the door and next thing you know we're being run over by crazed mac addicts, their eyes glazed over, all chanting "iPod, iPod, iPod"! Far too much of the general public for my limited coping skills.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the The Goblet of Fire. I'm not a huge Potter fan. I have seen one and a half movies thus far and haven't read any of the books. My friends say the movie didn't do the 600 page book justice but it was certainly long enough for me and I enjoyed every minute of it on the big screen.

Much of the early part of the film is set-up for an upcoming Tri-Wizard competion which involves two other rival magician schools coming to visit. One is a group of well mannered french madelines and the other, a band of eastern bloc boy hotties including one Viktor Krum, a student wizard and "quidditch expert from Durmstrang".

It's the Bulgarian born Stanislav Ianevski's first appearance in a feature film after having been scouted at an international school in London and...

...needless to say, his non-speaking role added to the film on many levels for me personally.

The direction was tight, many of the scenes were extremely funny and the story was so well written that you didn't care about the overblown use of CGI too much. I also think the dark tone of the film spoke eloquently about the world we are living in today. I was actually scared towards the end and couldn't even watch the screen when a particular midget sized, fetus-esque being uh... grows... into the "Dark Lord", played brilliantly by Ralph Fiennes.

An earlier scene sees the fire bombing of a tent city where people from all over, including Harry and his friends have traveled to attend a world wide sporting event. Something about the way the scene played out had me thinking what it must be like when American troops shock and awe small countries with less than a 10th of our military. Images for thought.

Anyways, go see it, It's fantastic on a big movie screen. Just leave the young kids at home.

Sebastião Salgado Exhibit In Salt Lake City

Salgado

Make sure you take the opportunity to see the Sebastião Salgado Photography Exhibit at The Leonardo at Library Square, an art, culture and science center being developed in the former main library building in downtown Salt Lake City.

Brazilian-born Salgado is widely considered the most important documentary photographer working today. He has covered such events as wars in Angola and the Spanish Sahara, the taking of Israeli hostages in Entebbe, and the attempted assassination of President Ronald Regan. From 1984 until 1986, he worked alongside Doctors Without Boarders to document the African Famine. Salgado has been awarded virtually every major photographic prize including the W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography, and was twice named Photographer of the Year by the International Center of Photography. He is currently a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and an honorary member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in the United States.

The Exhibit called “Exodus” (also called “Migrations”) is one of the largest and most important photography exhibits ever to come to the Intermountain Region. Since its debut, it has traveled to galleries throughout the world, including Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, Scuderie Papali al Quirinale in Rome, and United Nations Hall and International Center of Photography in New York City. Salgado and his photographs have also been featured in recent issues of both Rolling Stone magazine and The New Yorker.

“Exodus” tells the story of the unprecedented displacement of millions of people at the close of the 20th century due to war, natural disasters, environmental degradation, and the widening gap between rich and poor. Salgado worked for six years in 40 countries photographing men, women and children on the road, in refugee camps and in city slums. His photographs capture their dignity, courage and entrepreneurial spirit, while at the same time conveying a larger picture of the massive social and political transformations taking place in a world increasingly polarized by excess and want.

New Sony Ultra-Compact Announced

The

Digital Photography Review reports that Sony is stepping up the picture quality of ultra-slim digital still cameras with the introduction of its new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 model, the first in this category to offer both Super Steady Shot ® optical image stabilization and high light sensitivity.

With these Sony technologies, the new six-megapixel DSC-T9 delivers more detailed images with significantly less blur and graininess than typical point-and-shoot cameras. Optical image stabilization reduces image blur from hand movement, while high light sensitivity helps to lessen blurriness resulting from low-light conditions. The end effect is better-focused, expressive images that look more like the way you see them, imitating the human eye.

“Our T Series set the standard for slim, stylish, point-and-shoot cameras with fine image quality,” said James Neal, director of digital imaging products at Sony Electronics. “Now the use of this category of cameras is pervasive. With the DSC-T9, we are taking this category a step further by incorporating advanced imaging technologies that ensure that you get the shot, even in unfavorable light conditions, like nightclubs and restaurants.”

I have been looking for a product like this for about 10 years. Now, you too can have an NCM style, late night "Headphone Party" with your own PreSonus HP4. A 4-channel amplified Headphone Monitor with 150 mWatts at 51 Ohms (as close as you'll get to audiophile for the price of $99).

The cool thing is you can daisy-chain additional units together if you need to add more inputs. Fantastico!
