New Entertainment Weekly - In Utah

Picture_37

There's a new free entertainment weekly coming out produced by the Salt Lake Tribune called InUtah This Week which should give the City Weekly an interesting bit of competition, mosty advertising I'm sure...

The first issue should be out by the 9th of June we're told by a reporter who was at our JWD party this past weekend and is currently working up a small feature on the W. Lounge. From the looks of it they are playing it pretty safe as far as content so I don't think the City Weekly has anything to worry about if they keep up their underground music coverage rolling and political/polygamy exposé's front and center.

Comb & Tuck

I could see this coming a mile away with all the bearded bohemian fashion that's been dominating as of late. Beat the pack with some nicely combed hair and a tucked-in shirt, which is really is more cool and fashionable now than a hanging-out one.

Also, guys... stop spitting!

Exactitudes

Exactitudes_1"Inspired by a shared interest in the striking dress codes of various social groups, Rotterdam-based photographer Ari Versluis and stylist Ellie Uyttenbroek have systematically documented numerous identities over the last 8 years. Rotterdam's heterogeneous, multicultural street scene remains a major source of inspiration for Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek, although they have also worked in cities abroad. They call their series Exactitudes: a contraction of exact and attitude. By registering their subjects in an identical framework, with similar poses and a strictly observed dress code, Versluis and Uyttenbroek provide an almost scientific, anthropological record of people's attempts to distinguish themselves from others by assuming a group identity. The apparent contradiction between individuality and uniformity is, however, taken to such extremes in their arresting objective-looking photographic viewpoint and stylistic analysis that the artistic aspect clearly dominates the purely documentary element."

Gold Pants Live

Goldpants

With the FANCY PANTS PARTY coming up this Saturday I can't help posting some love for the Iowa born crafting mastermind Leslie Hall. Creator of the Gem Sweater Museum and music video Gold Pants Live by her band Leslie and the Ly's.

Look deep into her gold pants my young art school goslings and find a cornucopia of inspiration for your  JUST WANNA DANCE glamour. WARNING: Her website is quite extensive and I know several people who have become helpless addicts.

Laughter through the tears!

More Leslie featured in this Paper Magazine article.

Five Reasons To Hate LV

My very dear friend over at Woolfphase is the only HOMO-erectus I know who can simultaneously deconstruct a baseball game while 'accidentally' spilling on your precious Louis Vuiton monogram bag and then post comments to his own blog in the second person about it. Effing genius!

Etro

I can't decide between the trippy Etro ($650) or the dark and handsom Dior ($880) man bags. Oh well, I'm certain someone out there will surprise me.

My Summer Scent?

001939

It appears I've exausted a now rare bottle of L'Occitane Cedrat Pomelo Grapefruit Citron cologne that I've been loving in the Summer months for years. It was fairly inexpensive but it smelled oh, so freah and had a decidely dapper dry-down. With the season in full effect, I think I'm going to be trying this new Richard James scent, that is as soon as I can find the damn stuff, (avail in the UK only right now). It claims to "possess all the herby elegance of a traditional English spritz, Sicilian zing from an abundance of citrus notes, and a contemporary kick, courtesy of pink pepper." Sounds like it's a lovely combination of my classic notes with an interesting twist. I'm sure everyone is dying to know what I think... I'll keep you posted.

Finally The Democrats Have An Agenda

Here's the new simple, common-sense agenda:

1. Honest Leadership & Open Government -- We will end the Republican culture of corruption and restore a government as good as the people it serves.

2. Real Security -- We will protect Americans at home and lead the world by telling the truth to our troops, our citizens and our allies.

3. Energy Independence -- We will create a cleaner and stronger America by reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

4. Economic Prosperity & Educational Excellence -- We will create jobs that will stay in America by restoring opportunity and driving innovation.

5. A Healthcare System that Works for Everyone -- We will join 36 other industrialized nations by making sure everyone has access to affordable health care.

6. Retirement Security -- We will ensure that a retirement with dignity is the right and expectation of every single American.

Hey, anything sounds good to me at this point! Investigate further and donate to the cause at Democrats.org/win2006.

The Inconvenient Truth

159486567101_aa240_sclzzzzzzz_v54363733_It seems increasingly important for political movements to saturate the entertainment sector of the media to get their message through to the common pleb. Thankfully Al Gore has been more effective as a crusader for the environment than he might have been able to be as president. If you haven't heard him speak in recent years on the subject you might not believe you were seeing the same franken-person we came to know during the Clinton years or the run up to the 2000 elections.

So here comes the new documentary/website/movement called An Inconvenient Truth. Hopefully people everywhere, especially here in the U.S. (the number one polluter in the world) will see the movie, pull their heads out of their asses and begin to take some action. Even if your certain the Rapture is right around the corner, I ask, would it really be that hard to take a slightly pessimistic view of our effect on the planet and give up a few niceties to make sure we survive the next 100 years?

It's for the children.
