The Fountain, Darren Aronofsky's third film (after “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream”) is really fantastic. I highly recommend it.

Hmm.
It was, hands-down, the most painful, overwrought, self-involved film I've seen in at least a decade.
Pi and Requiem = top-flight. Fountain = P.O.S. Thoroughly disappointing.

It's funny how many people seem to either hate it or love it.
True, it was extremely self involved, but I love french existentialist films as well...

i thought it was quite fantastic. however, i think it is one of those films that will take a few decades to set in and truly realize how genius it is.

those beautiful organic special effects you were telling me about were incredible.

I thought the film was extraordinary. Every scene was breathtaking. I actually cried during the movie.
I was also told that there was no CGI used to make this film. The scenes were elaborately painted and some other techniques were used. Interesting....
