I'm sorry, but this looks like something you would drive in the original Battlestar Galactica.
Thanks to Chris Howard our media alchemist, the beta version of PRISMNATION.COM has launched. The galleries will be up shortly, along with any other section that might seem a little off. Check it out though and send us your comments.
I am visiting some friends in St. George, Utah who are working on the sequel to High School Musical for the Disney Channel
. The weather couldn't be more perfect. Here's a couple pictures from a state park called Snow Canyon that is minutes away from where I'm staying. The patterns of sandstone erosion from water and wind along with a host of other geological wonders are quite remarkable.
This Friday we are proud to bring you Phoenix Arizona's hardest working deejay, Joe DiPadova of the weekly party StraightNoChaser and Tribal Winds Records (NYC). I first started talking to Joe through email way back in 1999 when he was a college radio DJ in Boston and had always respected his passion and dedication to House music through the years. Now Joe runs a successful weekly party in Phoenix called StraightNoChaser that continually hosts some of the best DJ's in the world and defies any preconceived notions about what Arizona nightlife has to offer.
Joe is one of the 'Global Soul' movement's brightest rising stars. Not only has he released on Antonio Ocasio's renowned Tribal Winds Records NYC (as I mentioned previously), but he continues to produce hot record after hot record. Asked to release shortly on Lars Behrenroth's (Liebe Detail/West End/XM Radio) new label, Joe is also coming correct with A-list DJ/Label Owner jojoflores (Gotsoul Records - Montreal) by pressing a jam that's being played & charted worldwide by the likes of DJ Pope (Poji Records - Baltimore), Jihad Muhammad (West End Records - NYC), Julius 'the Mad Thinker' (3Degrees - Chicago), Jojo (Greece) and Ian Friday (Tea Party Music/West End - NYC). His newest track "ALARM", is one of the hottest joints at the Winter Music Conference RIGHT NOW in Miami by HALO, Julius 'the Mad Thinker', Abacah Soul, Bradford James, jojoflores & more, with rumors of it's eventual release on Dennis Ferrer's label Objektivity.
On top of all this and his weekly events in Phoenix which have earned him a national reputation, Joe is touring constantly - routinely booked to play some of the hottest parties in the US. In the last year alone, Joe has played in Boston, Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, San Diego, Los Angeles, Dallas, & Taos, NM.
This is another night not to miss at PRISM. Tell all your friends and come out in force! Joe has rightfully earned a venerable reputation nationwide - come see what they're all talking about.

Probably best known for their epoch-defining 1993 album 'Bytes', The Black Dog routinely get mentioned alongside Aphex Twin et al as figure-heads in the UK's electronic timeline - with 'The Book Of Dogma' a missing link for many who weren't lucky enough to be there from the start. Weaving their complex drum programming into a pattern that is both melancholic and deliciously old-school, 'Virtual' kicks things into touch through a composition that errs on the side of headphone listening, but would equally be at home on the more daring of dance floors. Sticking on the first disc, another evident highlight is the astonishing 'See & Sages' - a track made all the more rare due to original copies being melted down to free up shelf space, its presence here displays an adept understanding of the relationship between beats and melodies that would put most current techno producers to red-faced shame. Wearing their Artificial Intelligence badge with pride, other cuts from disc one include the jaw-dropping 'Ambience With Teeth', 'Tactile' and 'Chiba' - any of which could legitimately be labeled a classic without Trade Description authorities becoming involved. Clicking over to disc two, the time-window changes to the 1991/2 apex - with the retooled 'Glassolalia' a definite focal point, reveling in crisp drum-patterns and deep synths that drag you in whole and keep you gleefully hostage throughout. With the likes of 'VIR2L', 'Hub' and 'Erb' also included for maximum devastation, 'The Book of Dogma' is so essential you'll have already bought it by now! (Review via Bookmat)

On May 28th ACP Recordings presents The Ideal Condition, the solo album
from Paul Hartnoll - his first major release since he and his brother
disbanded their group, Orbital, three years ago. From their early
success with, ‘Chime’ in 1990, Orbital became one of the most acclaimed
electronic artists of the next decade. They made seven albums, and
their live shows-groundbreaking both in terms of performance and
production-became a legendary fixture of the festival circuit around
the world and particularly at Glastonbury, where they performed for the
final time in 2004. Work on The Ideal Condition began that same summer.
“I wanted to do something different from what I’d done before, that was
the point of not doing Orbital,” says Paul, “It just took time to
discover exactly what that was…”
What evolved, whilst recalling the cinematic sensibilities and
crowd-shaking rhythms of Paul’s earlier work, is a collection of songs
that takes those instincts and moves them into new and at times
experimental terrain. “I started trying to piece it together like a
novel, each song being a chapter and building it up in the same way a
plot line might do. I can’t honestly say it has a narrative from
beginning to end, although it does strangely feel like a concept album
without a concept.” The most obvious conceptual shift is that the
balance of this record is tipped in favour of acoustic (as opposed to
electronic) sounds.
Guests on the album include The Cure’s Robert Smith on the forthcoming single “Please.” “He’s got that whiney-bendy voice which was a lot like the lead lines I’d written for that song. I wanted someone who could do that naturally so I asked him, and he was up for it.” In addition to the Metro Voices choir vocal contributions are also present from U.S singer songwriter Joseph Arthur (“Aggro”), Brighton’s Lianne Hall (“For Silence”) and South London’s Akayzia Parker (“Nothing Else Matters.”) From what Paul calls the “Boadicea moment” of the album’s opener to the “steam driven synthesiser” of “Simple Sounds” via the old school electro of “Patchwork Guilt” and the neo-classical coda of “Dust Motes”, The Ideal Condition is a vivid testament to the scope and sensibility of one of modern music’s most innovative and resourceful minds.
I enjoyed the few songs streaming from the album at Pauls MySpace. Maybe this will be a better offering than the last few Orbital albums.
Jared Gold showed this past weekend at L.A. Fashion Week as part of the Box Eight. Some very tiny pictures here and here. Go Jared!

From the guy next door to the A-list celebrity, everyone is a
potential client and provides a true test of skill. The crop of budding
stylists will come from all walks of life and hail from all over the
nation. Some will get “cut” early and others will “blow away” the
competition.
A SALT LAKE CONTESTANT:
“The Wizard” as Tyson calls himself is determined to show America that hair isn't just a look...it's a science. His hair styling is progressive, and he loves traveling to new places, constantly aiming to discover new ways to elevate hair design. He sees it as just that – hair design – not just hair styling.
When “Shear Genius” open calls came to his attention, Tyson had recently sold his salon in Salt Lake City after seven and a half years. He traveled to Los Angeles, and the next day, he had two emails forwarded to him about the casting call. It took him a week to decide why he'd ultimately go for it— he felt that he could “show an elevated perspective on hair design that could inspire both the public and fellow hair designers.”
Tyson says he loves to help bring out the beauty that is already in someone. He says he's a kid at heart and a passionate designer.
