Dixon Get's Physical

Bodylanguage4new "Get Physical call on Dixon from Innervisions to mix the latest installment in their acclaimed mix series. ‘Body Language Vol. 4’ will be released in late April.

Following on from Jesse Rose, the choice of Dixon sees Get Physical moving further away from electro towards more soulful sounds. “I was glad to take up Get Physical’s offer to design a mix for them,” says Dixon. “Of course it’s not one of my usual or typical outlets, but I think it gives me a chance to reach a new and different audience on top of the one I usually have. Showcasing your style to listeners that are not too familiar with it is always a challenge.”

The mix features plenty of cuts from Innervisions labelmates Chateau Flight, Henrik Schwarz and Stefan Goldmann, as well as lots of vocal tracks - Larry Heard’s popular ‘The Sun Can’t Compare’, Dennis Ferrer’s new remix of ‘Love Can Damage Your Health’ and what promises to be one of the biggest underground house tracks of the year, Martin Buttrich’s remix of Tracey Thorn’s ‘It’s All True’. Dixon on his track selection: “In a time when a lot of people play music that is very empty and reduced, I wanted to create something else. The aim was to put together a selection of tracks that have a certain soulful quality about them. But without falling for the standard clichés like wailing divas or noodly Rhodes solos.” [Via: Resident Advisor]

What's Changed?

Picture_31_2

Buying_war_titleThankfully for the poor state of American journalism, Bill Moyers just couldn't stay retired and is back with a new show on PBS called Bill Moyers Journal. The show  kicks off this Wednesday night with a special called "Buying the War" which examines the press coverage in the lead-up to the war as evidence of a paradigm shift in the role of journalists in democracy and asks, four years after the invasion, what's changed?

BILL MOYERS JOURNAL

Special premiere airdate: Wednesday, April 25 at 9 P.M. on PBS. (90 minutes)

Look Into The Future

Patrick_nagel_woman
Patrick Nagel is just the right amount of tacky for a retro comeback this summer. Will anyone back me up on this?

Here's a brilliantly simple scheme to make money off stupid people ...why doesn't someone make an infomercial/video called "The Secret", and then everybody will want to know what "The Secret" is and buy the DVD.

Opening Act

Bgirls
It's true. I'm opening for the Brazilian Girls this coming Tuesday at The Depot! I'll be playing a short 45 minute set so get your tickets soon and come to the show early.

And The Beat Goes On

Starbooty
These are some pictures from STARBOOTY last Saturday. We appreciate everyone who came and kept an open mind about dancing to underground Disco. Mauricio Aviles and Nick James were on the money all night and The Princess Kennedy gave a fabulous performance despite my accidental cartwheel into her face, (a true champion)! We also want to thank ORANGE for being such gracious and accommodating hosts. If you haven't checked out this destination bar yet, you should do so soon. It's a lovely place to chill and they have excellent food.

New Bjork Album Art

Bjorkcover_2

I've always admired Bjork's wacky take on pop music. Her album artwork is always top notch as well. Here we have the art for her forthcoming album Volta from Bjork.com. After her rather out there 'all vocal' album Medulla, it's nice to see she's getting her groove back. (Maybe she broke up with Matthew Barney?) There's an exclusive interview with her at Pitchfork that interested parties might want to scan.

Flash Dance

Flashmob_243x209 More than 4,000 clubbers danced through the rush hour at Victoria station in Britain's biggest flash mob stunt. Revelers responded to e-bulletins urging them to "dance like you've never danced before" at 6.53pm. There were knowing looks and giggles among the casually dressed crowd that gathered from 6.30pm, wearing earphones.

...."I didn't even notice the commuters. When you get into the dancing you're oblivious to them and forget you're at a railway station."

Chris Gale, 39, brought his daughter Sophia, three, and son Jacob, six. Mr Gale, a property entrepreneur from Bromley, said: "The children were a bit bewildered at first but then had fantastic fun.

..."I saw the straightestlooking guy in a suit with his briefcase doing the freakiest dance moves."

[Via TMN > Via This Is London]

I have been going crazy over old skool house and techno lately and today I came across a wealth of archived DJ mix tapes, mostly from West Coast DJ's at the height of the early 90's rave scene. Some of them sound like shit but others like Jeno's 'Live at Futur' mix and Robbie Hardkiss's 'Live at Pure Space' are better than nothing. I played those babies so much they broke in cassette deck. You can find them all at Ezeskankin.com.

Respect!
