Download the entire 192 kbps, m4a mix here (right click and 'save as') or stream or download as 128 kbps mp3 from the music page here. It's full of straight up deep techno with funky, rave-y bits and random samples scattered throughout. I would love to hear any comments.

Shiny Things

Coolstuff
Some interesting products suggested by our German correspondent Peter including the Living Colors lamp which projects and changes the color of your boring white walls using an ipod-like touch wheel remote and sexy Svarovski Active Crystal headphones, both by Philips. And, the liquid surface of LaCie's new Golden Disc could be home "for your precious data" (500GB).

Quittin' Time

Picture_4_2Utah's favorite news anchor man and local celeb Dick Norse, seen in this picture 20 years younger than he must be now even with more soft focus than Barbara Walters, is finally retiring after 43 years at KSL. Good on ya Dick!

On The Silver Globe

Continuing on the thread of my recent Communist era film discoveries like Andrei Tarkovsky's "Stalker", I can recommend another iron curtain curiosity called "On The Silver Globe" directed by Andrzej Zulawski. This tale of stranded Astronauts and their generations of wicked tribal offspring on some far away planet is excellent, even if it's slightly tedious towards the third act. Some chunks of the movie are missing thanks to the Polish Ministry of Culture being overtly against it and the hours upon hours of psychological screen chewing dialog is stressful on subtitle readers. Yet, "On The Silver Globe" is a treasure trove of brilliant design choices including clever locations (beaches, deserts, a cavernous salt mine cathedral) combined with great photography. The costume design specifically is some of the best I've ever seen. Something akin to a cross between Siouxsie Sioux, Julie Taymor and the brilliant work in Frank Herbert's original Dune. Anyways, you can read more about it at IFC, Stylus & Slant and it's well worth your time if you can handle obscure art films.

NiteLite Shines This Saturday At W. Lounge

Nitelitebx

Somewhere deep in the ice of space...

...there is a lite that never goes out.

NewCityMovement is back in full effect this Saturday at the W. Lounge. Join us for an exciting night of futuristic underground house called NiteLite. Enjoy the music, good people and liquorhol while you're blinded by waves of color from our dual high-velocity NiteLite organs. DJ PHILLIP BAUM is opening the night starting at 9pm. Arrive early if possible, it's going to be FUN.

Good Vietnamese food is hard to come by in Salt Lake since the rapid decline of the once great Cafe Trang, but I'm happy to say I think I've found a decent replacement for yummy PHO and flat noodles. Try Indochine on 230 S. 1300 East. The service is still working some kinks out (the waiter spilled beer on us trying to carry it on a try), but the food is pretty good and they have great fresh spring rolls.

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism

Picture_31

A book and now a short film produced in part by Children of Men director Jonás Cuarón, THE SHOCK DOCTRINE by Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades, The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world-- through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries. [Thanks Demian]

After careful consideration, you may find there are just too many rules involved in owning a skunk as a house pet. Here are some people who have done it however.
