Colorama

Stuart

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting one of my all time favorite graphic designers while on a recent trip to Los Angeles. Stuart Patterson is responsible for some of the most iconic images in music and fashion from the late 90's and beyond when his work for Wallpaper Magazine and Naked Music catapulted him into the collective conscience. His often imitated work came to define the era of afroglam jet-setting pill-poppers yet his range has grown beyond nude women and retro patterns. Clients as wide ranging as BMW, The Walt Disney Concert Hall, KCRW, Bluefly.com and club massives Avaland and Giant in L.A. have tapped his Colorola Studios electric sensibility to further raise their profile. View some of those projects and take a walk down memory lane at Colorola.com.

Phantom vs. Arnage

Phantomvsarnage

I've been travelling a bit lately from the east coast (Atlanta) to the west (L.A.), all in the space of a few weeks during which I noticed a few of these spanking hot Rolls Royce Phantoms sleuthing around in metropolitan areas. I think they are dreamy, that is if we lived in an age where gas or money wasn't an issue. It's rival the Bentley Arnage Final gives it a run for the money but Phantom also features suicide doors!

Diving Into Atlanta

Georgiaaquarium

I just got back from a trip to Atlanta GA where one of the coolest things I did was visit the Georgia Aquarium. Along with several exhibits that focus on regional and geographic water life it features the largest on land 'fish tank' in the world housing several whale sharks, sting rays and a hammerhead shark. The 2 foot thick acrylic viewing window which feels like a movie theater is the second largest in the world at 27 feet high, 63 feet wide. Walkways around the tank lead you through a 100 ft. tunnel and other port holes where you can see the life from various angles. The tunnel reminded me of those scenes in Jaws 3!

Webcams of the various tanks are running at the Aquarium website to get an idea of what I'm describing but it really is worth a visit if you're out that way or have a layover at the countries busiest airport. Also, it made me think differently about the Living Planet Aquarium project here in Utah, to which I've never been. Perhaps that's because it's in Sandy? [Flickr photo sources: A, B, C, D]

Are You Registered To Vote? The Deadline is next week!

Hey People, this is serious,

The deadline for getting voters registered is FAST approaching. Mail in registration for Utah must be postmarked at the latest October 6th. We know that most people will stick with their initial party affiliation they declared the FIRST time they vote and we know that most young voters will vote for Obama. Because of that, it's important to get the young voters registered THIS week!

Info for registration at http://elections.utah.gov/voterregistrationnewwhen.html

If you don't have time for any other volunteering, please find the time to help with registering young voters before the deadline by contacting my friend Robin Ashdown or the Obama Utah HQ (see address below) if you can help with any of the things listed below:

1)  Go to Robin's "Dinner, Drinks, Do and Donate" on Friday at the 'Pleasure Palace'.

2) Join or organize a Campus Outreach group to get young Obama supporters registered.  They have until October 6th to do mail-in Voter  Registration.

3) Get your groovy ass online at mybarackobama.com -- log in to "Neighbor to Neighbor" to get started calling Obama supporters.

4) Party For Obama -- Throw a dance party THIS WEEKEND and get your guests to register to vote.  Get a stack of mail-in registration forms ready for all the kids who haven't voted before.

5) Go down to Obama HQ to volunteer (it's downstairs from the Pleasure Palace)

Enrico Franzolini and Vicente García Jiménez Big Bang Lamp

"Irregular and apparently random intersections of spatial planes create a volume around the light source and produce the dynamic character of the exuberant ceiling lamp designed by Enrico Franzolini and Vicente Garcia Jimenez." [Stylepark]
