Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

I am somewhat intrigued by the new Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs movie. The childrens book the movie is based on was one of my very favorites when I was a twee little one, thanks in part to the incredible artwork by comic book illustrator Ron Barrett. Looking at his fantastic work it makes me pine for the old fashioned Disney style hand animation rather than the standard digiplastic potato-head looking characters that are the flavour of the day.

The movie is disappointing, though it does have some funny parts. The story was radically changed from the original book, the better to make it a formula Hollywood kid's movie; and the animation is digiplastic. On the other hand, it has a number of shots that are direct references to illustrations in the book. So that's nice.
