(The movie Frida filmed on location here)

One of my favorite architecture memories was visiting Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo's studio/home in San Angel, Mexico City some years ago. The house was designed and built by Juan O'Gorman who also did the amazing murals at the University Of Mexico Library nearby. Built in the early 1930's, the house caused some controversy as the first modernist construction on the American Continent and possibly because it featured a narrow bridge between the roofs with a staircase to Frida's outer window (scandalous!). The upstairs of the main house has a bright two-story loft studio leading into a big kitchen where Diego produced over three thousand works. Mexico City is truly one of the coolest cities ever. Don't pass up the chance to visit it someday!
