New Order's Power, Corruption & Lies (Reissue 2008) artwork by Peter Saville used a reprint of a painting from the National Gallery in London by Henri Fantin-Latour called A Basked of Roses. You can have it reprinted here for a song.

A friend tipped me off to another free amazing MJ tribute mix by hip-hop DJ/Remixer J.Period. It's the best I've heard yet, omitting a lot of the overplayed songs with great flow to it. Also check out his Abstract Best of Qtip mix. [Thanks Stewf!]

Peaking at the right moments, this night simply full of soulful magic beyond compare and smiling happy people who coudn't get enough. Beng Beng Beng

The crown prince of 'afro-beat' Femi Kuti, son of Fela Kuti was on PBS 'Austin City Limits' this weekend and yes, watching this show on several glasses of wine confirmed that I'm definitely in my 30's. Anyways, I've always been a big fan of the Kuti's but was thrilled to see Femi live, even if it was on the blinkybox. For all those who missed it, watch a bit here... and realize that your gold chains and sheet rock mansions exclude you from ever being this cool.

A little like being trapped in a Korean strip mall nail salon, these grimy 8bit 80's infused videogame disco sunrise stripper-grams are perfect for blasting out of the old phoombox on my bike this summer. The State Room - Live Music Theatre

Chris Mautz and Darin Piccoli, two veterans of the Salt Lake music scene have been working for over a year to open their new live music 'theatre' where the Childrens Theatre was at 638 S. State Street, (across from The Bayou). It will have a combination of fixed seats (theatre seats and pews) and an open floor space that will be either open for dancing or filled with tables and chairs plus a lobby and cloakroom.

Opening Night will be April 1 with legendary bassist STANLEY CLARKE and his band. Tickets go on sale this Sunday at 10 am at www.thestateroomslc.com.

You may remember our friend Mauricio Aviles from his appearances at NCM's PRISM a few years back. No? Well, now that the dust has settled and we're bumpin' and grinding in a smaller venue that's SO much more our speed, he's trippin' back - on his birthday no less - for NiteLite February!

Coming from a latin and house music background, the El Salvadorian born Aviles has regularly pushed dance music boundaries in his native San Francisco. First gaining recognition as a fixture playing with Miguel Migs and Naked Music, Mauricio was one of a handful of DJs that propelled the SF Deep House scene to the world's consciousness in the 90s. But he didn't stop there! He's remained true to his diverse musical passions by producing tracks as 'Movido' on Loveslap Recordings, spinning regularly, often at boutique hotels and fashion events, all while simultaneously pioneering the red haut avant-disco scene. His current Bay Area parties DRUNK & DISKONNECTED and GRITT are where glitterball greats like Darshan Jesrani of Metro Area, Jon Howard, Mark E Quark, 40 Thieves, Safety Scissors, Landshark, Solar and Lance De Sardi never fail to funk you UP.
