Come Together Right Now

FiceGalleryStrollSLC

The Salt Lake Gallery Stroll continues to morph and energize the city each month. This is a photo of my bow-tie wearing drunk ass from last Fridays event at FICE, which like the other shops around the 2nd South & Broadway block were brimming with youthful energy. A wonderful sight indeed.

Not Beige Makeover

Peeryhotel

The Peery Hotel recently got a fresh coat of paint and guess what? It wasn't beige! If they can do the same with the inside, maybe they could contend with the Monaco around the corner.

Are You Registered To Vote? The Deadline is next week!

Hey People, this is serious,

The deadline for getting voters registered is FAST approaching. Mail in registration for Utah must be postmarked at the latest October 6th. We know that most people will stick with their initial party affiliation they declared the FIRST time they vote and we know that most young voters will vote for Obama. Because of that, it's important to get the young voters registered THIS week!

Info for registration at http://elections.utah.gov/voterregistrationnewwhen.html

If you don't have time for any other volunteering, please find the time to help with registering young voters before the deadline by contacting my friend Robin Ashdown or the Obama Utah HQ (see address below) if you can help with any of the things listed below:

1)  Go to Robin's "Dinner, Drinks, Do and Donate" on Friday at the 'Pleasure Palace'.

2) Join or organize a Campus Outreach group to get young Obama supporters registered.  They have until October 6th to do mail-in Voter  Registration.

3) Get your groovy ass online at mybarackobama.com -- log in to "Neighbor to Neighbor" to get started calling Obama supporters.

4) Party For Obama -- Throw a dance party THIS WEEKEND and get your guests to register to vote.  Get a stack of mail-in registration forms ready for all the kids who haven't voted before.

5) Go down to Obama HQ to volunteer (it's downstairs from the Pleasure Palace)

Fashion Stroll Tonight

2008fallfashionstroll

Press Release:

Fashion Stroll is a Spring/Fall event patterned after Salt Lake City’s wildly popular art-centric Gallery Stroll, but with a focus on fashion, live music, and independent style.

Fashion Stroll is free to the public, and will feature local style shopping at vendor booths along the sidewalks and inside the eclectic mix of shops, galleries and boutiques along East Broadway in downtown Salt Lake City (300 South between 200 East and 300 East).

Runway shows will highlight the best in new local fashions for Fall at 7, 8, and 9pm. DJs, live bands, and street artists will also be strewn along the sidewalks to round out a night of  fashion, art, and entertainment, SLC style.

In addition to the night’s festivities, SLC Fashion Stroll will be doing a “Style Swap” coat drive for the city’s homeless. Attendees to the Fashion Stroll can bring in their used coats, boots, and Fall/Winter wear to donate to the cause. In return, donors will receive a coupon good for a 10% discount on any purchase at any participating Fashion Stroll vendor or boutique.

NiteLite Turns 1 w/ Special Guest Jay Tripwire (Vancouver) and Jesse Walker, Sept 20th 2008

Nitelitejaytripwirex

NiteLite is already 1 year old, can you believe it!? Get deep down & funky with us on Sept 20th with special guest JAY TRIPWIRE direct from Vancouver, Canada. With over 100 worldwide magazine features, write-ups  and record reviews to date, Jay Tripwire has moved from a cornerstone in the West Coast warehouse scene of the early 90's, to performing in over 200 cities around the globe. His signature fusion of Detroit textures and intricate rhythms with a classic house touch has pushed him "ahead of everyone else," according to MUZIK.

While his personal arsenal of re-edits and comfort in arranging extended DJ sets lasting eight hours or more keeps him consistently booking tour dates, it's his over 250,000 vinyl records sold with 100+ releases and remixes on some of the finest underground house labels that he's perhaps most known for. His productions have been called "a DJ's dream packed with the finest tools from the trade" by URB, and that he's "responsible for some of the most exciting underground house music to come out of North America in recent years" by DJ Magazine.

His music has been featured on numerous commercially released mix CD's from Cocoon, Fabric, Renaissance, Journeys by DJ, Ultra & Bedrock by many major artists, and has been supported by a diverse spectrum of dance culture from DJs such as John Digweed and Laurent Garnier to Kerri Chandler and Mark Farina. He even has bass patches on numerous synths named after him, making Jay Tripwire a true legend in the music industry.

Cupcakes To The Rescue

Miniscupcakes_3

Mini's Cupcakes has been calling my name for months now. I always seem to cruise past it on my bike when it's not open but the other day however I made a special trip to discover their delightful cupcake concoctions. Mini's 'cuppies' are just the right size, contain the best ingredients, no fillers, preservatives or additives and their frostings are made with real butter and cream cheese. My favorites were the popular 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', the 'Orangesicle' and the 'Margaritaville' - made with real tequila!

Mini's

Salt Lake City, Utah 84111

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 6:00 pm

Shred The Bern

Bern

All this talk of bike safety at CityWeekly
and I'm guilty as the rest of them! I really DO want to change. I definitely need better role models (ahem!). Speaking of helmets, if you're looking for something different than speeding bullet, fish head styles check out the Bern Baker or Watts (shown above), Giro Flak or Catlike 360 - all will make you look like a bad dirt bike deud while simulusly (I made that up) protecting your light bulb.

Maybe this has been around for a while but here's a preview of what CityCreek is going to look like once it's completed in 2012. Although, as expected, there's a lot of beige in our future.

RISE - SLC Dance Music Festival - July 12th

Riise_2

Gvrise

Ok, so just two days after The Roots kick off the Twilight Summer Concert Series, I'll be playing with an all-star lineup at RISE! ...the first dance music event of it's kind in SLC on July 12th at Gallivan Center. RISE! is going to be a fantastic day of music, fun, dancing and debauch. The organizers behind it have brought together not only an energetic music lineup, but have incorporated many layers into the event design and through community and nightclub involvement. It's seriously going to be spectacle not to be missed. My set time will be earlier in the day, so come early and enjoy the festivities with NewCityMovement in the house. Plus with two stages, myself, DJ DC (Trapp Door) and others may be playing again later in the evening.

Get your tickets before the day of the event! Tickets are $30 the day of the event so I recommend getting them EARLY for only $20 (+surcharge) from RiseMusicFest.com OR for a flat $20 at Lunatic Fringe locations, Mechanized or the RISE! kiosk on the patio at Trapp Door this Thursday night. I'll be playing a special Summertime DJ set there (patio) after 10pm so come say hello and play after the Roots or whatever.

Here's the Official RISE! DANCE MUSIC FESTIVAL Press Release:
