How To Move A Building
Salt Lake City paid to move our historic Oddfellow Hall building across the street so they could build a parking lot for our courthouse. It's moving today actually, quite slowly on hundreds of rubber wheels. (Click for larger)
I just overheard the contractor saying that the plan is to twist the building around 180 degrees, fill in the hole they dug to jack it up in the first place, slide it over and then build a slightly higher road or berm on which to move it across the street while keeping the structure level. He also mentioned that the rumor about the street not being weight bearing enough to withstand the move was not true.
