Something New From Leia Bell
Salt Lake Tribune –
Salt Lake City's rock-poster goddess extraordinaire Leia Bell takes a turn for something just a little bit different with an exhibition of new work soon to hit Ken Sanders Rare Books. "The 'West Side' Story: New Paintings and Prints by Leia Bell" trades her accustomed penchant for alt-band youth culture and animals in for depictions of her west-side Salt Lake City neighborhood instead. Bell is renowned for her simple yet effective imagery, thick lines and basic colors, plus a context that always speaks to a playful serenity all its own. Thanks to national and ever accumulating media coverage, Bell has perhaps done more to put Salt Lake City on the art map than anyone in recent memory. Whatever changes in style that might ensue with this new subject matter, the results are certain to be classic Bell. When » April 16-30.
