Sound Factory 1993
This is the sound (and feeling) that got me into true house music, essentially. If you want to go exploring the golden age of ny club music, i.e. Larry Levan, Junior Vasquez, Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries... this is a good place to start (tons of mixes there).
Most people don't realize that Salt Lake Cities own local sound guru, Jack King purchased pieces of the original Soundfactory system for use in the historic Vortex Club (Exchange Place) and Bricks following that. All of us working at the Vortex in it's mid-90's heyday had a pretty good thing going as far as bringing the vibe of the coasts to our Wild Planet parties. Bricks took it to another underground level. Jeff Chappell and Jeremy Housekeeper ran their expertly programmed lighting systems in syncronization with guest DJ's and the effect was incredible. Sound design and lighting are truly a lost art in dance culture these days. Or is it?
